Grant Overview

The Midwest Urban-Rural Girls Collaborative Project (MRU) promotes the participation of girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

The MRU strongly encourages and welcomes people and organizations from K-12 education, higher education, government, professional organizations, business, community-based organizations in Missouri, Kansas, and Northeastern Oklahoma to participate in the project.

The MRU brings together people and organizations who are interested in expanding the participation of girls in STEM activities

The MRU fosters collaboration, networking, sharing of information, and sharing of resources. A Program Directory will be created, and $1000 mini-grants will be awarded for suitable projects.

Registration:

It is important that individuals/organizations planning to participate in the MRU project register in the Program Guide

Kick-Off Conference:

An inital conference will be held at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri on April 1, 2006.

Mini-Grants:

To encourage collaboration in the MRU project, eligible people and organizations will be able to apply for $1000 mini-grants. There are about 36 mini-grants available to girl-serving STEM programs that encourage individuals and organizations in promoting girls towards STEM.

Program Guide:

The Program Guide contains information about organizations, programs, and individuals who are interested in promoting STEM activities. The Program Guide will help in sharing information, networking, and collaborating on STEM.

Conference/Forums:

There will be 3 conferences and 2 forums. The purpose of these conferences/forums is to share useful information on how to make STEM more accessible to girls and young women.

Champions Board:

The Champions Board is an advisory board that includes distinguished members from industry, educational institutions, private sector, and public sector.

Evaluation:

Evaluation of the MRU project will be conducted to determine the effectiveness/impact of the project in encouraging and supporting STEM activities at local and regional levels.
